If you’ve watched the Grant Street documentary or spent time learning the history of this neighborhood, then you know—this moment didn’t happen overnight.
For decades, the Grant Street Ladies, alongside Bishop Clarence Laney, Jr., and with the support of key partners and organizations, advocated, organized, and stayed committed to this community. Their leadership helped move the Fayette Place site into the hands of the Durham Housing Authority, laying the groundwork for what we’re now seeing come to life.
After nearly 30 years of little to no activity, our neighborhood is finally witnessing something good take shape.
Join us as we celebrate the groundbreaking of The Villages of Hayti—a continuation of a legacy built by those who refused to give up on this place.
