Over the past few weeks, several neighbors have been asking about the construction happening near Colfax and East Jacob Street. We wanted to share a clear update on what we’ve learned and where you can go for more information.

After connecting with City Council Member Matt Kopac and his office, we were informed that this work is part of the City of Durham’s East Durham Waterline Replacement Project (Phase 1A).

This phase of the project includes:

  • Replacing aging water lines

  • Rehabilitating or replacing sewer lines

  • Completing some storm drainage improvements

We reached out directly to Council Member Kopac and city staff to better understand the scope of the work so we could share accurate information with neighbors. We also asked about the possibility of having someone from the City come out and walk the area with us to answer questions in person.

We will be doing a walkthrough of the development with project leads and neighbors on Thursday, April 16th, 2026 at 9am. Any neighbors who want to participate should meet at the Monument of Faith Church parking lot.

If you’d like to learn more about the project, including timelines and additional phases, you can visit the City’s official page here:

As always, we’ll continue to share updates as we receive them. If you have specific questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us—we’re happy to help connect you with the right people.
